Don’t miss the “Sweet 16” annual Coronado Speed Fest September 21 and 22, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM at the Naval Air Station North Island.  Vintage cars from 1952 – 1972 will compete on a 1.7 mile course in two full days of events.  Plus, historic NASCAR vehicles will have their own race.

A highlight of this year’s event will be the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911, with more than 200 cars on hand for viewing.

Car enthusiasts can enter their special vehicle in the car show.  First place winners from each class will have the opportunity to take a lap the race track.

In a year when many military events have been cancelled, Navy Base Coronado is thrilled to host this Open House.  It provides a rare opportunity to enjoy military displays including current helicopters and speak directly to their pilots.  All of the profits from this event benefit military welfare activities.

One of the hidden gems of this huge event is the sneak peek Car Procession on Thursday, September 20.  Forty handpicked race cars will parade from North Island down the main street of Coronado, Orange Avenue, and park on Isabella Avenue in the heart of the village.  Entrance is free!  Plan to be there starting at 3:30 PM.

This festival draws up to 25,000 attendees so buy your tickets in advance and arrive early.  For more information: http://www.coronadospeedfest.com/navy.html
