About Coronado

The City of Coronado is located on a peninsula within the San Diego Bay.  Most locals call Coronado “the Island,” despite the misnomer.  Coronado, CA offers it’s visitors and residents a unique atmosphere filled with rich history, a variety of activities, a word class beach and a temperate climate to enjoy year round fun.

Coronado attracts people for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the small beach town feeling in the middle of a big city.  Coronado, CA is isolated on three sides by the San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, yet is connected to the “mainland” by a bridge and the Silver Strand.  Coronado Island’s beach has won numerous awards, most recently voted the #2 beach in the United States by MSNBC and the Today Show.

Coronado’s community atmosphere welcomes visitors and residents alike.  Throughout the year, the City and local community organizations put on events such as the Motorcars on Main Street, The Flower Show, Summer Concerts in the Park and the 4th of July parade and celebrations.

Tourism is Coronado’s biggest industry, excepting the military.  The busiest months in Coronado for tourism are the Summer months from May-August.  The Coronado Visitor’s Center describes Coronado as, “Just two miles from downtown San Diego, across one of the world’s most distinctive bridges, is Coronado Island – a world away.  With one of the finest beaches in the world, bathed in endless sunshine and rich in history, Coronado is a vibrant beach community loaded with charm. Coronado can be many things to many people.”

Coronado’s population fluctuates seasonally.  Each Summer, an influx of tourists and seasonal residents come to visit to escape the heat of other states.  Likewise, in the Winter, we have some snow birds who escape the harsh Winters in colder climates.

Coronado is known for being a very dog friendly town with special parks and areas of the beach that allow dogs.  Many stores on Orange Avenue have outdoor seating where they allow dogs.  Cafe 1134 attracts dog lovers with their free dog treats in front of their store.

Coronado real estate is broken out into 3 main areas: the Village, the Cays, and the Shores.  For more information about the different areas, please click here.
